The Story Behind Our Seasonal Offerings
At Le Petit Jardin, our seasonal menus are never created months in advance on paper alone.
They evolve slowly and organically, much like the garden itself.
What we grow, harvest, crave, remember, or feel inspired by during a particular season quietly shapes what eventually makes its way onto our table and into your homes. Because of this, no collection is ever exactly the same as the one before it.
That exclusivity is incredibly important to us.
We intentionally create in small batches and in rhythm with the season because we believe food should feel alive ~ inspired by what is flourishing at that very moment, by what the garden is offering, and by the stories and memories that naturally rise alongside it.
Many of our offerings are deeply personal reflections of our heritage, travels, family traditions, and the people we love most.
This season, for example, I felt inspired to include pastelitos ~ delicate pastries that immediately bring me back to my Cuban roots. There is something nostalgic and comforting about them, something that reminds me of family gatherings, warmth in the kitchen, and the way food has always served as both celebration and connection within Cuban culture.
At the very same table, you may also find Kris’ favorite white chocolate pistachio shortbread cookies ~ a recipe that feels equally sentimental for entirely different reasons. We make them using Belgian white chocolate sourced from a neighboring village near where Kris grew up in Belgium, which somehow makes each batch feel even more personal to our family story. They are delicate, buttery, and nostalgically rooted in memory.
Even something as seemingly simple as our granola carries its own evolving inspiration.
I have always loved granola, but over time it became an opportunity to weave the garden directly into one of my favorite everyday staples. This season’s version incorporates my culinary rose petals ~ adding not only beauty, but a subtle floral softness that feels unmistakably like spring at Le Petit Jardin.
And then, of course, there are the croissants.
Truthfully, they are incredibly tedious to make.
They require patience, precision, early mornings, and hours of careful folding and resting. There are moments each season when I ask myself whether I should continue making them at all. And yet, every season, I find myself compelled to include them again because so many friends and neighbors have come to love them as part of our gatherings and seasonal offerings. Seeing them carried home in little charming pastry bags or enjoyed around someone’s table somehow makes every labor-intensive layer worth it.
Perhaps one of the most personal offerings of all is our signature vanilla extract.
We age it slowly over time using organic Madagascar vanilla beans and bourbon whiskey we brought back from a special trip to Churchill Downs with our son and daughter-in-law. What began as a meaningful family memory eventually became something we now quietly incorporate into many of our baked goods and seasonal creations. It is a small detail most people would never know, yet for us, it carries tremendous sentimental value.
That is truly the heart behind every offering at Le Petit Jardin.
Nothing is created simply to fill a menu.
Each product reflects a season, a harvest, a memory, a heritage, or a meaningful moment in our lives. The collections are intentionally ever-changing because the garden itself is always changing ~ teaching us, inspiring us, and guiding what comes next.
And perhaps that is what makes these offerings feel so exclusive.
They cannot be endlessly replicated because they are tied to a very specific season in the garden and a very particular moment in our lives.
Once the season passes, the menu changes with it.
Just as nature intended.
